Today’s resource is used for domestic marketing purposes. Do not forget to use this resource to look up companies in foreign countries too.

Kompass is a database:

  • With 2.3 million companies
  • In 66 countries

Referenced by:

  • 57.000 product & service keywords
  • 860.000 trade names
  • 4.6M executive names

It is easy to use.  You can search by keyword or categories.

The Frequently Asked Questions page is well done and suitable for non-native English speakers.

The information you get here often includes product, service and contact details.

There is both a free and paid version.  If you are doing exploratory market research, the free version should be enough for you.

Whether its for marketing, competitive research, brainstorming, trade contacts, or any of dozens of other reasons, there are times when companies need to get information about other companies.

Do you need to find other companies in different countries?

Here is a good place to start your research:

Thomas Global

Thomas Global says it is the most complete, up-to-date directory of global industrial suppliers and product information. You can browse through their detailed list of industrial products and services to access companies within these and other categories.

This is a database of hundreds of thousands of industrial suppliers and products.

Simply type in the name of a product, service, or company and specify the country or region you need. You can begin your search by product category and drill down until you find the company you need.

Thomas Global will give you a list of companies with address, phone number and company website.

U.S. Commercial Service

The U.S. Commercial Service is the trade promotion unit of the International Trade Administration.

The U.S. Commercial Service has trade specialists in 107 U.S. cities and in more than 80 countries.  These trade specialists work with American companies to help them get started in exporting or increase their sales to new global markets.

Please note:

The U.S. Commercial Service uses Export.gov as its main online resource for exporting clients.  Export.gov is the U.S. Government’s export portal.

Use the Export.gov website to get information on market research, trade events, trade leads, and how to export.

Foreign Trade Representatives Near You

If you begin with an International Website, and carry out some targeted international marketing, you will probably notice trends in feedback. As you notice market trends from specific countries, you will want to research individual country markets. Remember to check out the foreign trade offices for these countries that are located near you. Many governments employ to represent their trade interests to other countries. These can be in trade offices.  But also remember to contact the Commercial Attaché in their embassies established in your own country.
