Welcome to the 17 May, 2009 edition of the Get International Clients Sunday Blog Carnival.
Every year Forbes Magazine comes out with its list of the The World’s Biggest Companies. In this list Forbes’ ranking “departs from lopsided lists based on a single metric, like sales. Instead, we use an equal weighting of sales, profits, assets and market value to rank companies according to size.” This year’s recently published list includes companies from 62 countries, with the U.S. still dominant at 551 members, but that is 200 fewer than in 2004, when the list was first published.
This weeks blog carnival includes small companies that are targeting international markets. Hopefully some of these companies will be on a Forbes list in the near future.
International Business
Thomas J. Morrisey presents Michigan sells more produce to international markets posted at Capital News Service saying “Michigan companies, in concert with state government, are working to develop broader markets for their food products, traveling throughout Europe and Asia to introduce them to new audiences. The efforts appear to be working. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Michigan’s total agricultural exports rose from $836 million in 2003 to more than $1.2 billion in 2007 – an increase of 48 percent, slightly greater than the rate of the country as a whole. Figures for 2008 will be available in June.”
Brad @RS4Marketing presents Even Small Companies Can Think Global posted at RS4 Marketing Group saying “With more and more business being conducted via the web and through teleconferences its easy to see how borders and distance become meaningless in the new economy. As the economic forces shift towards more service based businesses it’s becoming more realistic for small firms to consider and transact business with customers around the world. A few years ago this would not have been possible but technology has opened up new markets for small business operators to consider.”
Kirk Adams presents Idaho Export Council Honors Four Idaho Companies for Export Achievement posted at Idaho Department of Commerce saying “Exports are big business for small and midsized Idaho companies. That was the message from Kirk Adams, President of the Idaho Export Council, who will present the U.S. Commerce Department’s Export Achievement Certificate to local companies at the World Trade Day to be held at the Grove Hotel on May 6, 2009. Those companies being recognized are PCS Edventures, AERO Specialties and Ground Force Manufacturing. The award recognized companies that are business clients of the Commerce Department’s U.S. Commercial Service, and that have used their services to make their first export sale or open new foreign markets.”
Jae Jun @Jae_Jun presents Forbes 200 Best Small Companies Project posted at Old School Value saying “The October 27,2008 issue of Forbes lists the 200 best small companies of the US. These may be good companies, but I want to know whether they are good investments. So I’ve set up a new challenge. My goal – go through each company and find the ones worthy of investment.” More in this series: Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4 / Finale
