International Business
Victor Shih presents Victor Shih on the Chinese Stimulus Package: “What did 5 Trillion RMB Buy?” posted at Asiabizblog – Business and Law for China and Asia saying “I have been getting a wave of bullish sell side reports about how the stimulus program launched late last year is having an unexpectedly good impact on leading indicators in China. Before we draw quick conclusions about how rosy everything will be, let’s step back and examine what these figures are actually telling us. In essence, most of the benefits of pumping 5 trillion into the economy are temporary. When this pace of lending slows, many benefits will reverse into major problems.”
Giulio Quaggiotto presents A Development 2.0 manifesto posted at Private Sector Development Blog saying “Inspired by the 45 propositions for social media, below is a modest attempt at putting together some initial thoughts for a Development 2.0 (the application of web 2.0 principles to the development sector) manifesto. This is very much a work in progress, so feel free to add your comments and point out gaps:”
Richard Brubaker @allroads presents China’s April Exports Fall 33% from 2008. 5% Further Than Expected posted at All Roads Lead to China saying “With my post earlier this week graphically showing China’s recent export trajectory, the news that April 2009 saw a 33% Y-o-Y dropmay suggest we have yet to truly turn the corner. Not only is it 5% more than expected by analysts, it is the first month in the last 3 where the number has eroded from the previous month. Perhaps indicating the dead cat bounce may be over, and we are at the top of the next downhill slide”
Sky Canaves presents Global Software Piracy Gets Worse, But China Improves posted at China Journal saying “Last year, the rates of software piracy dropped in around half of the 110 countries surveyed. China followed this general trend, and has seen its software piracy rate drop from 90% in 2004 to 80% last year, thanks to better enforcement and a government push to encourage the use of legitimate software in its computers.”
Andre Sammartino presents Stretching an advantage further posted at International BS Blog saying “Low cost is a common option in the business strategy literature. Often we assume that a firm that dominates market share, has substantial economies of scale, and offers a very price competitive product relative to its main rivals most be pursuing such a strategy to a greater extent than differentiation. The recent acquisition of Anheuser-Busch by InBev demonstrates that such assumptions should be tested.”
Ashish presents Twitter Registers 74% Jump in India Traffic posted at PluggdIN saying “Twitter is witnessing a mind-blowing traffic growth worldwide and India is no exception – the micro blogging site has registered 74% traffic jump (in terms of unique users) in the month of March. Worldwide, Twitter has even surpassed (as per data from analytics companies) NewYorkTimes and WSJ sites (source), but it will take time to gain traction in India”
