Welcome to the 1 March, 2009 edition of the Get International Clients Sunday Blog Carnival.
How Social Media Is Being Used In Europe
Neville Hobson @jangles presents Presenting social media in context posted at NevilleHobson.com saying “I had the pleasure of participating in an online event that involved delivering a one-hour presentation that Finnish entrepreneur and communicator Andrea Vascellari recorded for use as part of his firm’s Open Innocell project… The presentation continues a theme I’ve been focusing on a great deal over the past twelve months as a way to help business people (especially communicators) look at social media in the context of the broader changes in society, people’s behaviours and overall shifts in trust happening all around us.”
Hans Kullin @kullin presents The king of social media announces royal wedding on YouTube posted at Media Culpa saying “No other news story in 2009 can be bigger than the announcement today that the Swedish crown princess Victoria is getting engaged to entrepreneur Daniel Westling. When Expressen broke the story this morning, media and blogs have been buzzing about the rumors until the news were confirmed at about 2 PM. It was announced that the king and the government approve of the engagement, as is required by the constitution. The wedding will take place in spring of 2010 and will probably be an event of such magnitude that it will have a positive impact on the sales of tabloids and gossip magazines during the coming year or so.”
Matthijs Roumen @mroumen presents Twitter – Worlds Fastest News Source posted at ViralBlog saying “Twitter isn’t the new kid on the block anymore. Globally, the amount of users is growing day by day. Today Twitter showed me once again the viral spreading speed it has to offer. News is going like crazy and doesn’t only reach a tremendous amount of people, but also reaches high influential sources like newspapers.”
Stephen Davies @stedavies presents Video explaining the online media posted at PRBLOGGER.COM saying “I don’t know about you but when I speak with non geeks online enthusiasts about the online media I often have a hard time explaining how news can travel over the web. There are simply too many channels of communication that no doubt sound alien and complex to the untrained ear. Every-day words (E.g. RSS, social bookmarking, social networks) to you and me dear PR geek may not sound so familar to others.”
(writing for @engagingbrand) presents Could you build a company on Twitter? posted at TtheEngagingBrand saying “I love twitter, not because it is the best social media tool per se but because it suits my personality…informal, creative, sharing, connecting. As I was driving to a workshop today to deliver a session on how to creatively communicate on the web, I wondered whether you could build a company on twitter?”
Kris Hoet @crossthebreeze presents What I got out of Twitter – Part II posted at CrossTheBreeze saying “Twitter users that make the service better both in adding features, applications and services. Think about features such as hashtags, RT, … mostly incorporated into most clients now. Some of you will be using Tweetdeck, I still hang on to Twhirl (that new search ‘activate’ feature is a killer!) but there are many many others. And finally things like Twitter Remote or Mr. Tweet are really powerful services. The last service is also good proof it really is the community that makes things better here, have you ever taken a look at Twitter’s own Suggested Users Feature? ”
Laurence-Hélène Borel @blogtillyoudrop presents My social media mistakes posted at blog till you drop! saying “Mack Collier’s Viral Garden is one of the first blogs I read when I started blogging 2.5 years ago and has been my social media instructor over the years! I love social media because it is such a new medium and it gives me the freedom experiment. But when you experiment, you can also make huge mistakes. Mack recently published a post of his social media mistakes – time to blog and tell.”
Luc Debaisieux presents Positive values… from ripples to waves posted at MindBlob saying “What’s the point about writing a blog, reading others, commenting, contributing to social networking? Is there a link between blogging and reality? Or is it just like blowing in the wind of virtual authority, ephemeral popularity? If some of you still have these questions in a corner of their minds, here is a wonder-full (yes, full of wonders!) angle to look at it.”

Hello Cindy,
It is indeed interesting to see the different perspectives people have over social media (from a European point of view). I believe that when the consciousness is well global -not to say, has no frontiers- the way it is interpreted, used or commented still differs. From a very personal point of view, I trust that time will lead people to see the great “human dimension” behind all this.
