Get International Clients Sunday blog carnival

Welcome to the 8 February, 2009 edition of the Get International Clients Sunday Blog Carnival.

International Business

GeekMBA360 presents How to work effectively with international teams while maintaining life/work balance posted at GeekMBA360, saying, “When your job description includes “global” — it’s a blessing, but is also a curse. You need to simultaneously interact with your colleagues from multiple time zones. It’s hard. What can you do to make yourself less stressful, more productive, and maintaining a reasonable schedule? Here is what I have learned.”

Mark Beckford @mbeckford presents Taming the dragon posted at Disruptive Leadership saying “China is still considered an emerging market for technology products, given that the majority of the people still live and work in areas outside the reach of technology (mobile phones being, or at least becoming, the exception). Therefore, I believe these 10 principles hold true in China as well.”

Alicia Morga presents Make Your Marketing Dollars Pay: Target Tweens posted at Engage:Hispanics saying “In the not-too-distant past, most marketers tackled Hispanic targeting by trying to segment the market into groupings such as first generation, second generation, third generation, acculturated, assimilated, etc. Hispanics and marketers alike were confused as to what generation or group they fit into! It seemed for a time that every new market researcher had a new way of segmenting the Hispanic market. Well, the days of broad buckets are over. The tools are available online to take a more sophisticated approach to targeting the Hispanic market.

Andre Sammartino presents How will multinationals protect themselves? posted at International BS Blog saying “There is a growing realisation across the business press that the Global Economic Crisis is transforming the international trade environment to one that is much more protectionist than we’ve seen in recent decades.
The general push for freer trade has been a strong driver of globalisation since the mid-1970s at least. Tariffs have tumbled along with other barriers to trade and investment. Through the GATT and WTO, and a huge swathe of other multilateral and bilateral trade agreements, goods and services have been easier to move around than ever before (particularly once we factor in lower transport costs).”

Michele Goetz @mlgoetz presents Social Media with a Chinese Touch posted at Brain Vibe saying “I had the amazing experience last year to expand my analyst team to Shanghai. While a challenge, it opened up a new way to think about how to interact and succeed in this new market. One thing I learned is that the Chinese always bear gifts. When colleagues arrived in the US, they brought a gift. When I came to visit my team, all had a gift. I was told during cultural training that I should bear gifts.”

Katia presents Websites Going International posted at ¡Hola! Oi! Hi! saying “I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, since I see my company venturing into foreign markets, and also because I often read about other companies entering international markets. I think it’s exciting, I love this stuff! For companies, it’s the next thing to do.
I was triggered to write this post from a discussion forum at Forrester Reasearch that I’m part of. Jim Deitzel from Newell Rubbermaid was interested in knowing our opinions on how to go about setting up a website in different languages.”

Jason Heller @JasonDPG presents The Internet Surpasses The 1 Billion User Mark Globally posted at The Digital Blur saying “Over the last 5 years or so I have been keeping an eye on the growth of the internet is international markets, particularly in Asia. comScore issued a press release today that sums it up quite well. First, as of December 2008 the internet reaches over 1 billion people globally. The majority (41%) of the internet users globally are in the Asia Pacific region, and China specifically had been on a trajectory to surpass the US for sometime now. Notice how the main search engine in China Baidu.com, sometimes referred to as “China’s Google”, and Tencent, a network of Chinese internet properties and services, has earned their spots as two of the top 15 properties in the world – yes globally.”

Hey Cindy:

My oldest daughter spent a college semester studying in Shanghai, and also a year studying in Chile (high school). Her degree is International Business, and she would like to work for a company that does business with China. She has minors in both finance and economics.

Any suggestions, since she’s thinking about Masters program now? With all your international connections, I thought we could have a dialogue… and I’m wondering about getting my e-book on Web 2.0 translated to Chinese (or the languages you’re fluent in as well.)
